Therapeutic volunteers

Train to be a therapeutic volunteer on our helpline

Our team of therapeutic volunteers is central to the work we do; answering calls and offering support to around 1,000 survivors each year. We currently have 20 active helpline volunteers keeping the helpline open 20 hours a week. We welcome new volunteers of all backgrounds and all ages (our current team ranges from 25 to 65 years old!).

We professionally train each helpline volunteer to have a structured support system, offer opportunities for continuing professional development, and will reimburse travel to our Gloucester centre. We ask our volunteers to commit to two 2-hour shifts per month.

If you are a good listener, empathetic, flexible, pragmatic and open; if you know that you can be there for someone in distress, and are able to listen, signpost them to sources of help, and advise and guide through difficult times – we would love to hear from you and tell you more about being a helpline volunteers.
