About us

Offering practical and emotional support for anyone affected by sexual violence, Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (GRASAC) work to empower people to find their own way of living: To thrive – not to just survive.

Whilst GRASAC supports all survivors of rape and sexual violence, we recognise that sexual violence is gender-based abuse, suffered in the main by women and girls, we therefore offer a women-only space in our Gloucester centre.Β

“I am not what happened to me,
I am who I choose to become.”

Our aims:

To relieve the distress of anyone within the Gloucestershire area who has experienced any form of sexual violence.

To educate the public about the nature
of sexual violence and its repercussions.

Anti-Racism Policy

GRASAC is working towards demonstrating its commitment to anti-racism by explicitly becoming an anti-racist employer, charitable organisation and service provider. We believe in a fully inclusive service, with anti-racist practices throughout our organisation. We know that Black and minoritised women continue to be disadvantaged and harmed by traditional white supremacist beliefs.Β  We are committed to developing throughout 2024, and beyond, an organisation that believes and demonstrates an intersectional approach for all women and girls, through our policies, procedures, and training of all staff and volunteers.

How GRASAC started…

Founded in 1984, by a group of women volunteers determined to support fellow women and girls in Gloucestershire who had experienced rape, sexual assault or sexual abuse. In 2014 Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre became a registered charity.

In 2024 we celebrate 40 years of empowering and supporting women and girls who have experienced rape and sexual abuse – at any time in their lives.

We continue to benefit from and depend on the support of our volunteers. As the only service dedicated to the aid and support of sexual violence survivors in the Gloucestershire area, of all genders, GRASAC has grown considerably in response to the growing need, for women and girls in particular.

Come back soon to see how our journey has evolved, and how we got to where we are today!

πŸŽ‰πŸ’–WOW!!!! πŸŽ‰πŸ’–

As we approach our 40th birthday at GRASAC, we set the goal to reach 40 sponsors/donations...and we are so nearly there!!

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank anybody who has raised money, gifted prizes for our ball or items to use with our service users...you allow us to provide the services that so many need πŸ’«

We still have time to spare and we're so very close to our goal...if you think you would like to donate to us, pop us a message! We would love to auction the talented skills of the community... could you gift a few hours of your time? Will writing, landscaping, interior design? We'd love to hear from you!

🌟✨Celebrating Growth, Empowerment, and Self-Care! ✨🌟

πŸŒˆπŸ‘ Our incredible young people at the Phoenix Group were diving deep into Healthy Relationships last week, and the results are nothing short of inspiring! πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

πŸ‰πŸ—£οΈ They kicked off with a powerful activity, jotting down hurtful words and phrases they've encountered on melons - generously provided by Tesco, St Oswald's (Gloucester). πŸ‰πŸ—£οΈ

πŸ’‘πŸ’¬ Exploring the nuances of consent, they engaged with thought-provoking videos and dissected the fries anagram, delving into the crucial concept of capacity to consent. πŸ’¬πŸ’‘

🚩🟨🟩 In a scenario-based activity, they navigated through red flags, beige flags, and celebrated green flags, fostering insightful discussions around healthy relationship dynamics. 🚩🟨🟩

πŸ”¨πŸ’₯ Venting out negativity in a constructive way, they ventured outdoors for a symbolic act of smashing the melons adorned with hurtful words. Stay tuned for the empowering social media reel! πŸ’₯πŸ”¨

πŸ’ͺπŸ’– Returning indoors, they embarked on a journey of self-affirmation, crafting positive statements to counteract the earlier negativity. πŸ’–πŸ’ͺ

🎁🌻 Additionally, the girls were gifted self-care items including lip balm, hand cream, and a sunflower bracelet, fostering moments of rejuvenation and self-love. 🌻🎁

πŸŽ‰ Join us in celebrating these moments of growth, resilience, empowerment, and self-care! πŸŽ‰
